Artist WebsiteSump Pump Records presents...
Franklin Bruno writes and sings and plays songs. Musically varied, lyrically inventive, painstakingly crafted, emotionally resonant songs. You can call them 'pop' songs if you want, but he doesn't know what that means anymore, and bossa nova, country, art rock, new wave, and post-punk are all in there too. So is the Great American Songbook, if that includes Smokey Robinson, Caetano Veloso, Rose Melberg, and Mark Eitzel. Folk and metal not so much, but you can't have everything. As one-third of Nothing Painted Blue, a solo artist, one-half of the Extra Glenns, and (currently) frontman of the Human Hearts, he's been at it for 25 years, releasing records on key independent labels like Shrimper, Scat, Simple Machines, Anyway and Merge and performing everywhere from the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Los Angeles' Disney Hall to CBGB's and hundreds of dives, basements, and house parties. His songs have been covered by the Mountain Goats, Jenny Toomey, Laura Cantrell (all of whom he's also recorded and performed with), Lou Barlow, and MacMcaughan (whom he's played shows with, but that's it). With:
